People who know me might think my special item is a piece of jewellery, but it isn’t. It’s a five dollar casino chip.
Shocked?
It’s special to me because it reminds me of my Dad. I found it in his belongings after he passed away. It reminds me of happier times, of some of the crazy things he use to do.
Like the time he came home after a night out and I woke because I heard a thump. A second later there it was again. Thump. Thump.
‘The walls keep moving.’
I opened the bedroom door in time to see him bang into the hallway wall, like a pendulum swinging from side-to-side. It appeared the hallway walls were the only reason he was still upright.
The smell of whiskey was strong and he was smiling that I’m happy/sloshed grin.
There are many other happy memories, but this is the one that the five dollar chip reminds me of.
